X-DESIGNER® RELEASE 8 ANNOUNCED BY IMPERIAL SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY
New version of the classic UNIX GUI builder enhances usability, Java and XML features
Mountain View, California, January 8, 2008 -
Imperial Software Technology (IST) today announced the availability of X-Designer
Release 8, underscoring its long-term commitment to the ongoing enhancement and maintenance
of the classic UNIX GUI builder. X-Designer 8 has extensive new productivity aids and enhanced XML
generation to aid portability of Motif interfaces to other GUI environments. Now software engineers
building Motif interfaces can do so more rapidly than ever before, with confidence that they can
port designs to other environments via XML.
"We've developed this new release, X-Designer 8, as our customers continue to request new features
and developers continue to deploy X-Designer and Motif for new projects. The longevity of the combination
of XDesigner and Motif is due to the maturity, sophistication and reliability of the tool and the toolkit itself"
said Derek Lambert, president and CEO of Imperial Software Technology.
Antony Fountain, principal software engineer at IST and lead author of the O'Reilly standard books on Motif, said,
"Motif is the industry standard GUI toolkit for the X Window System. While newer, alternative, GUI toolkits
have appeared for X, none has had the durability and appeal of Motif. Where stability, compatibility, robustness
and professional support are required, Motif remains the first choice of software engineers in defense, aerospace,
telecoms and other mission-critical applications." Fountain is also the editor of the popular Motif community
web site, www.motifdeveloper.com, where he regularly publishes answers to technical queries raised by the site's readership.
