UIM/X Migration Service


There are many hundreds of UIM/X based applications still in use and many advantages to moving away from UIM/X to a modern GUI Builder such as X-Designer:

  • take advantage of all the new features in Motif 2.1
  • adapt your application to take advantage of client/server architecture
  • migrate to the latest versions of both Java and Microsoft Windows
  • move your development to other platforms such as Linux and Mac OS X
  • test your application with X-Designer's built in GUI testing technology
  • take the first step to moving to cross-platform toolkits such as Qt (see our Qt Migration page for more information)

Simply put - X-Designer provides you with a quick and easy migration path away from UIM/X to a tool that opens new possibilities for your application development.

UIM/X came with a convenience API and its own programming model, so most UIM/X applications contain many thousands of lines of UIM/X code in addition to the GUI construction code. Converting the GUI is often not enough. It is highly likely that you will still have to rewrite a large part of your application code to convert it from the UIM/X toolkit to Motif.

When its time to move your application to Linux or MacOSX, or just to take advantage of the richness of Motif 2.1 - which is now the default Motif on most Unix systems - we can help.

We offer two levels of UIM/X migration service.

Level 1 - Conversion of the UIM/X GUI designs. If your application did not make use of the proprietary Ux convenience functions then we can quickly perform a conversion of the GUI designs in your .i files to X-Designer format for you.

Level 2 - Conversion of the entire UIM/X application. If your application makes use of the UIM/X convenience functions we will convert your whole application from UIM/X to Motif, leaving its structure intact, so that it will compile, build and run usually with only a few changes needed in the Makefile.
