A High Performance Widget

XRT/table is designed to be used for a wide variety of tasks, from small scrolled lists containing a dozen lines, to displaying a huge database with millions of cells. There are a number of resources you can adjust and programming techniques you can apply to achieve optimum performance.

For example, rather than passing in all the data for large tables, you can register a cell-value callback. Your call-back will be called only for the visible cells.

Object-Oriented Extension to Motif

Because XRT/table is based on the open object-oriented architecture used by the Xt Intrinsics and OSF/Motif, it fits seamlessly into your X Window development environment. The widget is directly programmed through resources (e.g. XtSetValues() and/or resource files). It also supports UIL and C++ interfaces and can be easily integrated into X-Designer

XRT/table 3.0 continues the XRT tradition of high quality widgets with flexible features at a reasonable price. XRT widgets may be licensed for a single development machine or economically for a network-site, or even for your entire organization. There are no run-time fees or royalties for distributing end-user applications you build with any of the XRT widgets.

More Than a Spreadsheet - and Less Too

Using XRT/table can be a lot like embedding a spreadsheet right into your application. It will optionally provide spreadsheet-style labels.

Users can easily scroll through rows and columns of data. You can let them add, delete, freeze, hide, and drag and drop rows and columns. You can also let them sort rows by a certain column, load delimited data files, print all or parts of a table in PostScript, and even output a SYLK-format file for loading into spreadsheets.

Unlike a spreadsheet, XRT/table does not automatically provide calculation or formula support (although developers can add this themselves). And, unlike a spreadsheet, XRT/table is a GUI component, which means the programmer is ultimately in control of the table's contents and behavior.
